Representation

The characters that will appear in our teaser trailer are the two protagonists thats go into the woods initially. These are normal teenagers in everyday clothes. This idea adds to the realism of the story line. Also there will be several secondary characters who will play the roles of the evil presences in the woods. These characters wont be seen in full focus so you will be able to make out their physical form. The ideas is to have them as shadows or blurred characters that are seen in quick shots now and then throughout the trailer.

The societies view of teenagers are that they are trouble makes and always finding ways to get into danger or create danger for other people. In this case we wish to defend this view of the teenagers today as they two main protagonists will be dressed in everyday clothing doing nothing wrong except in the society however stumbling into trouble in the woods through no fault of their own and having to over come the events that this leads into on their own. We wont be creating any particular stereotypes in this teaser trailers. Media commonly use stereotypes to help the audience create their own ideas of the characters through the ways that society views them today. This is very successful as it becomes more personal to the audience as people have different views.
Water Lippman created a theory of stereotypes and the 4 functions of them.
These are,
  • An ordering process
  • A short cut
  • An expression of our values and belief
  • A map of the world.
